Anglo American Platinum has announced Natascha Viljoen as its new CEO following the decision of Chris Griffith to step down.

Viljoen (49) has been Group Head of Processing for Anglo American since 2014. Her term will commence on April 16.

Anglo American Platinum Chairperson, Norman Mbazima, described Viljoen as a “seasoned senior executive”.

“She knows us and our business well, having worked with our executive team over the last five years in leading the changes required to transform the performance of — and commercial value from — our processing operations,” he said.

Griffith, who has spent 30 years at the company including seven as CEO, announced he was stepping down last week to pursue “other career opportunities”.

The platinum mining company on Monday also released its annual results for the 2019 financial year. The group’s EBITA — or earnings before interest, taxes, and amortisation — doubled to R30 billion. During the period platinum group metals production increased by 1 percent, driven by record production at its Mogalakwena and Unki mines.

Headline earnings per share more than doubled from R28,93 reported in 2018 to R70,87. — fin24.
