Motocross sensation, Tanya Muzinda, continues to write her own piece of history when the business community endorsed her as the most outstanding sportsperson of the year in 2018/19.

The 14-year-old needs no introduction as a globally acclaimed athlete and an award winning junior sportsperson and she will be honoured by the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Business Awards today.

The ZNCC business awards seeks to honour and recognise remarkable business performance in the previous fiscal and calendar year and Tanya has been selected among a pool of sports and arts nominees for the award.

These awards are aimed at fostering a competitive culture within homogeneous  Industries.

“I have been nominated and will be honoured by Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, which runs the Women in Enterprise Conference and Awards today at a local hotel as the Most Outstanding Sportsperson of the Year Glory be to God,” she said.

Muzinda, who is also the EU-Zimbabwe Honorary Ambassador for Youth, Sports, Gender and Development, Zimbabwe’s EU Ambassador for Food Security in Rural Areas set the trend to rise above these stereotypes, pushing the envelope on what some used to think was impossible in the world of
sports.

After winning the Junior Female Sportsperson of the Year at the Region 5 (SADC) Sports awards last year, Muzinda has stepped it up a notch higher
and she is set to receive an award of the African Child Sport Personality of the Year at this year’s Child Summit and Awards in Accra, Ghana later this month.

A lot has been said or is known about Muzinda’s exploits on the racing track but the teenager has touched the lives of many off the track, forming a foundation, paying fees for the under privileged, doing voluntary work for the elderly and her “go green” campaign aimed at conserving the environment.

A short-list of nominees per category was deduced by the adjudication committee based on aggregate nomination forms that were submitted earlier this year.

An independent adjudication committee void of ZNCC influence presided, voted the nominations to come up with a list of the top finalists using transparent and internationally acceptable adjudication criteria.

These finalists were notified of their eligibility to a ZNCC award and were invited to attend the awards ceremony where the Winner and 1st Runner Up will be announced to the business community in the respective region.
