CBZ closes 7 branches as Covid-19 strikes Mr Blessing Mudavanhu

The country’s biggest bank by assets and deposits, CBZ Bank, has closed seven of its branches after staff at the affected branches tested positive for Covid-19.

The closures have also affected five of the group’s office buildings.

The group joins a growing list of local businesses that have been forced to temporarily close their branches in the wake of their frontline staff testing positive for the virus.

In a statement to the market, CBZ group Chief Executive Officer Dr Blessing Mudavanhu said out of a total of 900 tests conducted on staff, 35 had tested positive.

He also advised that one staffer had succumbed to the virus.

“In view of the results outcome. . .  branches and Offices where staff tested positive will be closed from today 28 July 2020, to allow time to thoroughly clean and disinfect,” said Dr Mudavanhu.

“We anticipate opening of these branches and offices within 48 – 72 hours for continued business thereafter.

“As and when we record any more positive cases we will follow the same principle to close the branch / office to allow disinfection to take place.

“The health and safety of our employees, customers and nation at large is our highest priority,” he said.

Branches affected are Selous, Sapphire House, Southerton, Union Kwame Nkrumah, Highfield, Samora Machel, Westgate, and Robert Mugabe (MTC).

Affected offices are Pearl House (6th, 7th, 8th Floors), Sapphire House, Pomona Head Office,

CBZ Learning Centre and Fanum House.
