MIDLANDS – About 36 former Victoria Foods employees retrenched four years ago, are still to get any pen from the employer, the company’s former the workers committee Chairperson, Mr Paul Chikuni has said.
Mr Chikuni said according to retrenchment letters they got in 2015, they were supposed get their retrenchment packages as well as their salary areas within three months.
“Its four years now down the line and we haven’t received any penny for our former employer. We have tried to make follow ups but to no avail,” said Mr Chikuni,
He said they have tried to take the legal route to recover their money but they also got no joy.
“When we tried to take them to the labour court, there was a technicality that the company was now under judiciary management therefore we couldn’t sue them. We have tried to engage the Midlands provincial affairs minister but we are still failing to get any assistance,” said Mr Chikuni
He said they felt the company management was trying to sabotage the new Government administration by rejecting investors who were willing to take over the company.
“There are new investors who have tried in vain to take over the company. We were once asked to come and fill up forms of resumption of duty after a new investor tried to take over the company but the deal collapsed.
“We understand the company management always throw spanners in the way for new investors and we think they are trying to sabotage the new government administration which is inviting investors under the Zimbabwe is open for business banner,” he said.
Former Victoria Foods managing director, Mr Tanaka Hofisi who signed the retrenchment letters in 2015 declined to comment over the matter arguing that the company was under judiciary management.
Efforts to get a comment from the judiciary management manager, Mr Reggis Saruchera were fruitless as he was not reachable.
