A six-year-old rider Jayden Muzinda is basking in the glory of riding success after he was crowned Zimbabwe National Champion BMX 2018 last week.Jayden, who is brother to female sensation rider Tanya Muzinda came first in the group finals of Harare BMX Club competition at Old Georgians Sports Club.

For that reason, the young BMX rider is now eligible for selection for the World Championships to be held in Belgium next year.

“Congratulations to my young brother Jayden for being crowned the Zimbabwe National Champion BMX 2018.

“Well done and hope for the best next year for World Championships in Belgium. One step at a time,” Tanya posted on social media.

Their father, Tawanda Muzinda said racing has become part of their “culture” despite the challenges and costs that comes with the sport.

“All my kids are into racing, they obviously emulate Tanya because they have been watching her locally and internationally. It’s not easy considering that it’s an expensive sport. Jayden is young but he was training hard. Tanya is into Motorsport while the other two are into Cycling (BMX off-road).

“The other girl, Alicia is nine and she started motocross when she was six. She is now into full-time racing BMX. She has been firm, keeping up with boys, some of whom have been to World Championships before. I will be there to support what they love to do,” he said.

Muzinda is confident that Jayden has the potential to conquer the world just like her elder sister Tanya.

“It is Jayden who amuses me. He started his first competition last year when he was five.

“He started training when he was only four. He won a competition which runs throughout the year in 12 club championship, 12 National championship and 12 Inter-provincial Championships.

“He has been leading in his class up to the National championships held last week.

“I am confident that Jayden will be writing his own riding careers of BMX racing.”

BMX is an organised racing of robust bicycles on a dirt-track or cross-country course. BMX an abbreviation for bicycle motocross or bike motocross is a cycle sport performed on BMX bike, either in competitive BMX racing or free-style or in general on-or off road recreation.

BMX began in the early 1970s in the United States when young cyclist appropriated motocross tracks in Southern California inspired by the motocross stars of the time for fun, racing and stunts eventually evolving specialised BMX bikes and competitions.
