Leading hybrid seed producer,  Seed Co, has donated sporting kit to Peterhouse boys cricket teams worth over US$6 000.

The kit comprising of T-shirts and track bottoms, is for the Under 14, 15 and 17 boys teams as they gear up for the sporting season.

Peterhouse Cricket manager Kevin Barbour was delighted with the gesture, which he said will boost the boy’s morale ahead of the new season.

“This new kit will boost the young boys’ confidence since they will be looking smart. I hope we are going to do well. We will use the upcoming competitions to prepare for the coming season. We really appreciate their efforts. This is the first time to get partnership from Seed Co and we hope for a longer lasting relationship,” he said.

Seed Co Limited Group public relations and communications manager Marjory Mutemererwa, who handed over the sporting kit, emphasised the importance of developing sport at such a tender age, particularly cricket that has suffered various setbacks in Zimbabwe in recent years.

She said corporate social responsibility is an integral part of Seed Co values.

“We believe in promoting health and wellness, education, sports and culture and also agriculture.

“In Zimbabwe, sport has a long tradition and has produced many names. Our drive is to continue to popularise sport amongst Zimbabweans in an effort to continue producing world renowned athletes.

“Cricket in Zimbabwe has suffered various setbacks but we believe with the right partnership from various companies, the game will reemerge.

“The boys here present with us today are the future Zimbabwe cricket team flag flyers, thus we are eager to give them every support that we can to ensure we produce international standard players.

“We have and continue to assist schools, institutions and individuals from various sporting disciplines,” she said.

Some of Seed Co’s partnerships include, Takanyi Garanganga a Zimbabwean professional tennis player.

Seed Co are partners with the Zimbabwe National Rugby Union nicknamed the Sables, St Georges College rugby team, Churchill High School.

They are also assisting Norest Mashayamombe, a rising marathon athlete from Murewa among other sports stars.

“We believe in promoting sports and ensuring our students are healthy, skilled, capable and intelligent. Our aim is to help bring up distinguished athletes. Studies show that sports have the ability of nurturing well rounded students.

“As an organisation our drive towards CSR is not only limited to sports. We have various initiatives to ensure across board there is community sustenance.

“We have education focused programmes, where we pay school fees for students from primary schools to tertiary schools. Feeding schemes are also part of our call, health oriented programmes where we assist orphans, widows and hospitals.”
