Part 1
I have been speaking, mentoring and training people for a few years now. I do not come from a wealthy background, all that I have today I have worked for. I have always shared my story in this column.

The reason for this is to challenge you, and whoever might be in the situation I was in some years ago to rise and pursue your passion, and dream.

I discovered a passion in me to inspire, and motivate people, but how was I going to do it, or even make meaningful impact in my nation?

One of the decisions that I made which I don’t regret today, is I committed myself to studying successful people, and the principles that they lived with.

There is one fundamental discovery that I have come to understand and live with from my years of studying successful people, speaking and teaching on the subject, that what makes us or breaks are the CHOICES that we make in life.

Success is a choice

This is the one thing many people don’t want to hear. The truth is success is a choice, and so is failure. No one is broke by accident, you are broke by choice. Painful truth!

No one is successful by accident, you are successful by choice. Decision making is very important. You are where you are in life because of the quality of choices that you made.

Choices can make you just as much as they can break you. Excellence is a choice, and so is mediocrity.

Personal Development is a choice, and so is stagnation. Justifying mediocrity is a choice, and so is challenging and defying it.

What choices have you made so far in 2021? Where have they taken you? If you want your life to change, change your choices. If you want to see where your life is going, look at the quality of choices you are making every day.

This week I want to share with you 7 choices that I believe will help you manifest your greatness.

I will not be able to finish on these articles in one article so make an effort to get the next edition of the Business Weekly for more exciting articles. I will start this week on two of the choices in the series.

Choice to take responsibility

You need to choose to take responsibility for your life, and your future. Your life will not change by complaining but by choices. The first thing that many people try to do when you start talking to them about changing their lives is they start telling you why their lives cannot change.

There is no one who is going to change your life.  There is no one who is going to take the step for you.

You need to make the decision that you are the one to make things happen.

You are the one to see that dream through. You are the one to turn around your fortunes.

Great people live with knowledge of great responsibility to change their lives. Stop thinking like a victim. Life is not fair, live with it.

Complaining about your heartbreak will not make it any better, complaining about the economy will not make it any better, but taking action to improve it does. I lost my father when I was 13 years, and I grew with a loving single mother who went out of her way to work hard for me and my siblings to go to school, here I am writing to you.

I could have held on to the pity song for the rest of my life, but to what end? I ignored that and I realised that I had to be serious for myself and my family.

This worked, and today I am symbol of hope to those who know my story. I chose to take responsibility, and we often laugh about the past with my family.

Stop just complaining and take responsibility for the future of the country. The country is made up of you and me, and we are the one to make Zimbabwe the great nation it can be.

This can happen, the moment each and every one of us take responsibility to make things happen, to make business alive again, to fight corruption on the roads, and in the offices.

Every Zimbabwean has the duty to take responsibility and work hard to make this nation great. I took responsibility; I inspire people every week on this platform and many others.

I inspire people through radio and television, I have travelled throughout the country, talking to and mentoring students.

I have written books being used by schools in Zimbabwe. I believe everyone has a unique role to play in Zimbabwe. This starts by a choice, to take responsibility.

Choice of clarity

I have talked before on the power of clarity. This is a choice that you must make in life if you want to succeed. You must know what you want and go for it. It’s often said if you do not know where you want to go, any road will take you there.

You need clarity of purpose, clarity of motivation, clarity of thought, clarity of association, clarity of direction, and clarity of strategy.

King Solomon says where there is no vision, people perish, and where there is vision people flourish.

Where there is no vision people will only have televisions. Where there is no vision people will always watch other people live their dreams on television.

What is it that you want to achieve in 2021? What is it that you want to achieve by 2023, 2025, and 2030?

This clarity is very important. For some weird reasons people are afraid to die, but they have no plans for the future. Why do you want to live to 2030 when you have no plans for 2030?

The story of John F. Kennedy is always interesting. He is known for inspiring the vision to send a person to the moon and return him alive.

Addressing his nation in September 1962, he said, “We must commit in this decade to send a person to the moon and return him alive.

“We choose to do these things not because they are easy but because they are hard.”

By doing this Kennedy provided a lot of clarity for NASA which was running the project, and they achieved the goal.
