Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) yesterday launched the Accoleisure Zimbabwe travel guide mobile application in partnership with a local technology firm AccoLeisure Pvt Ltd.

“Accoleisure” is an acronym for Accommodation and Leisure, and the mobile application provides details of tourism operators and service providers to both local and foreign tourists. Its features encompass list of events, sports fixtures, restaurants and accommodation.

To complement the mobile application, ZTA and the technology partner also launched a tourism promotional video to stimulate tourist visits to tourism sites by both local and international tourists.

Government continues to take strides in bolstering the sector, which has resultantly been on the upward trajectory this year.

To augment arrivals and marketing of the tourism sector, ZTA has embraced digital marketing to rebrand and boost arrivals for destination Zimbabwe.

Speaking at the launch of the two products Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira, said the application would serve as a window to notice Zimbabwean tourism sites by aspiring tourists’ world over.

“I applaud the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and its technology partner AccoLeisure Pvt Ltd for developing the Zimbabwe Travel Guide. This application sets out to bridge the information gap between tourists and service providers and will go a long way in making Zimbabwe facilities visible to the world all the time.

“It is necessary to invest in digital marketing in the tourism sector.  When effectively implemented and supported, digital marketing has the potential to significantly increase tourism’s contribution to the economy,” said Minister Mupfumira.

She said the products would enhance prospects of growing tourism arrivals in the coming year on the back of the country’s renewed image as a peaceful tourism destination.

“I therefore have no doubt that in 2019 we will surpass our projection of achieving over 2,5 million visitors to Zimbabwe, based on the transformed positive image and increased business levels that we have witnessed,” she said.

Zimbabwe attracted more than 2,4 million tourist arrivals in 2017, representing a 12 percent increase from the previous year mainly  attributed to thawing relations between the country and the West.
